Acupuncture - What to Expect?

Before

  • Wear comfortable clothing (what you would wear to a Massage appointment).

  • Eat before your appointment to reduce the chances of fainting or feeling light headed during and after care.

During

  • Communicate.

    • Be open & honest with your therapist about concerns, fears and feelings.

    • Let your therapist know how they can make your treatment as comfortable and relaxing as possible. Adjusting room lighting, table warmer, etc.

  • Ask Questions. Do not hesitate to ask about the treatment process, needles or anything else you are curious about.

  • Needling Sensation. Acupuncture should not hurt. During needle insertion, there will be a slight poke or a dull ache. It should not be a sharp pain; if this occurs, let your practitioner know and they will remove or readjust the needles as needed.

After

  • Possible Side Effects. Side effects that may occur during your treatment can include slight bleeding from the needle, slight bruising, feeling of dizziness, and drowsiness.

  • After an acupuncture treatment, it is not uncommon to feel like jelly (in a good way). Patients will often feel drowsy, relaxed and sleepy depending on the treatment. It is recommended to drink lots of water after and take it easy for the rest of the day.
